Definitions

Aboriginal:  includes Indian, Métis and Inuit 

Band: means Band within the meaning of the Indian Act (Canada) 

Child: a person under the age of 18 years and includes a youth unless specifically stated otherwise  

Indian: means an Indian as defined in the Indian Act (Canada)

Intervention Services:  Services, including protective services, provided to a child or family under the Act except for services provided under Part 2 or 3 

Guardianship - is the responsibility for making major decisions about such things as what kind of education, health care, or religions training the children will receive, and how to manage anything the children may own, such as property or money.  Like custody, guardianship can be handled by one party only, or shared between the parents, which means that both parents will remain involved in making important decisions about the children’ future.
